Akopian set up Hexam two years ago with two ex-colleagues from Barings, where she was a director in the emerging Europe division. She is the lead manager of Hexam’s Emea Absolute Return Fund, a long/short fund which generated returns of 22.4% for the year to June 30 compared to 10.6% for its benchmark – but her second half figures may well show the strain of the new world disorder. She speaks Russian, English and French. Hexam is half owned by Resolution Asset Management.
